Flowers yellow campanulate 3-4 cm long. Conspicuous seed heads with feathery styles. Hard winter prune. (xC) Self seeding so keep under control.

(China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan)
Flowers white 3cm, hawthorn scented, tepals x4 in dichasia (clusters), anthers cream. Deciduous. This form has much heavier branches with the leaves (leaf with 7 small leaves up to 30cm) spaced so it appears more open than the normal form. It's a hexaploid (triple the normal chromosome numbers) as well as being a week or two later in flowering. (xA-B-C) Self seeding so keep under control.

Flowers white 3cm, hawthorn scented, tepals x4, star-like, anthers cream. Deciduous, but in milder zones it can be near evergreen. (xA-B-C) Can be used to cover large areas, trees, fences. In North America this clematis is known as the 'sweet scented autumn clematis'. Self seeding so keep under control.

Flowers deep rosy-mauve with satin sheen, tepals x4 and deep yellow anthers. Foliage attractive bronzy green maturing to bronze purple. (xA)

Flowers rich purple 15-18cm dia., overlapping tepals x6-8 and dark red anthers. Attractive seed heads! Container! (xB) Award of Garden Merit.

Deep burgundy with a hint of purple along the edges and a purple stripe. Bright creamy-yellow anthers. An excellent compact variety. Spring and autumn flowering. (xB)

(old British cultivar, unable to find original name)
Large lilac-coloured double flowers with pointed, wavy-edged tepals, whitish closer to base in spring. Later single or semi-double flowers, with a broad white bar, contrasting creamy-yellow anthers.

Flowers pearly pink with a light pink bar, fading to near white 15-17cm, tepals x6-8 overlapping and crimpled margin. Anthers tan with purplish hint. (xB)

Purple flowers with a purple or red-purple bar. Anthers reddish-purple. (xC) Previously sold in NZ as "Venus"; may have come in without a label with some other imports.

Flowers well rounded amethyst violet with reddish- violet bars 13-15cm. tepals x6-7, anthers pale yellow. Late spring-early autumn. (xB) Compact good for container!
